Commonly Asked Questions About Tummy Tucks:

  • What can I expect from recovery for the tummy tuck procedure?
For this procedure most people take off 1-2 weeks.  Since this procedure entails cutting and re-attaching muscle, your movement will be hampered and you will be sore.  Your body will need lots of rest in order to heal beautifully.  For that reason, we ask that you refrain from work, any extra walking, or lifting for at least 2 weeks.  After than first 2 weeks, Dr. Quinn will begin to release you to more activities until you are at full activity by usually 6 weeks.  For most people, the recovery has been described as an extreme tightening of the abdomen muscles and comparable to a C-section.
  • What is a tummy tuck procedure?
A tummy tuck procedure, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a procedure that tightens all of the abdominal wall and skin laxity.
  • Who is a candidate for the tummy tuck procedure?
If you have loose or sagging abdominal wall skin frequently associated with abnormal relaxation of the anterior abdominal wall muscles and/or you are unable to tighten abdominal wall skin with exercise, you might be a candidate for this procedure.
  • Will insurance cover this procedure?
In our experience, insurance companies consider this procedure cosmetic and therefore it is not covered.  The patient is responsible for payment.
  • If I don’t want to go through the recovery and expense of a tummy tuck, can I get the same results with liposuction?
No, liposuction is a procedure used for contouring only and cannot tighten the abdominal walls nor can it be used to lose “pounds of fat.”
