Dr. John Michael Quinn is not only a skilled plastic surgeon, but also an able reconstructive surgeon. He has years of experience in operating on patients’ hands to reduce the effects of carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, and ganglion cysts. When you require surgery on this delicate area, it is important to choose a surgeon who fully understands the anatomy of the hand and is qualified to perform the procedure. If you require carpal tunnel surgery or another procedure, please contact our Overland Park practice and schedule a consultation with Dr. Quinn.
Endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery is usually the best option for people who have severe carpal tunnel symptoms that restrict their everyday activities or symptoms that persist despite other attempts at treatment. It is also good for those who face some risk of damage to the median nerve in the hand because of carpal tunnel syndrome. This procedure resolves most patients’ symptoms very successfully. In addition, there are very few risks and complications associated with carpal tunnel surgery. After visiting our Overland Park practice for a consultation with our surgeon, Dr. Quinn, patients can schedule a date for the surgery.
In this procedure, a small lighted scope with a tiny camera attached is inserted into a small incision in the wrist. This gives Dr. Quinn an excellent view of the inside of the wrist and enables him to adjust his treatment according to the patient’s needs. To complete the surgery, Dr. Quinn cuts the transverse carpal ligament to release the pressure on the median nerve that causes carpal tunnel symptoms. After the incision is closed and bandaged, the patient is free to return home, and he or she may return to work in just a few days. Our patients are extremely happy with their results, as this procedure restores hand control, coordination, and feeling. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome and are considering carpal tunnel surgery, we invite you to contact our practice today to change your life for the better.
Trigger finger, or tenosynovitis, can be painful and uncomfortable, and sufferers may not be able to fully control their fingers without catching. Trigger finger surgery is a treatment that relieves this pain and allows the patient to straighten his or her fingers again. In this procedure, Dr. Quinn makes a tiny incision at the base of the finger. Through this incision, he opens the sheath that surrounds the tendon of the finger so that the finger can bend normally without pain.
This is a remarkably simple procedure that can be done under sedation in approximately 20 minutes; however, it is important to choose an expert surgeon who can work precisely enough to operate on an area as delicate as the hand. Dr. Quinn has extensive experience in performing trigger finger surgery and is qualified to perform this procedure on those who are experiencing trigger finger symptoms that do not respond to non-surgical treatments.
Research has not yet shown exactly why ganglions develop, but they are an uncomfortable nuisance for people who have them. These swollen lumps usually appear on the back of the wrists, but they have been known to appear in other areas as well. Though some ganglions will disappear on their own with time, they may also remain on the body for years. Because ganglions do not always disappear, many people opt to have the ganglions excised surgically.
In this procedure, Dr. Quinn makes a small incision that is approximately the size of the ganglion. He then removes the jelly-like material that composes the growth. The incision is then closed and bandaged. The recovery time after ganglion surgery is short and most patients find it worthwhile to undergo this procedure.
