BOTOX® Cosmetic
Many facial wrinkles are caused by overactive facial muscles that pull at the skin when we make simple expressions, as when we frown or furrow our brows. BOTOX® injections work by inhibiting the contractions of those muscles so that wrinkles in the treatment area soften and the skin becomes smooth. Though BOTOX® injections can improve many areas of the face, they are most effective when used to eliminate frown lines and other creases on the forehead. Available at our Overland Park practice near Kansas City, BOTOX® injections have helped hundreds of patients look and feel their best.
No anesthesia is required for the actual treatment, which takes only about ten to fifteen minutes. The area to be treated is examined first. During this time, the patient will be asked to move certain facial muscles. Then, tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic will be made in the patient’s skin. Just like that, the procedure is over.
There is no downtime associated with this procedure, and patients can even return to work the same day if they wish. Results are visible within a few days of treatment and last up to four months. The effects of BOTOX® injections are noticeable, but subtle – though you will definitely notice an improvement in your appearance after treatment, BOTOX® injections will not radically change the way your face looks, even when you’re surprised or frowning.
Restylane® Injections
Restylane® is a facial filler that reduces facial wrinkles, creases, and lines, whether deep or fine, that are not caused by overactive facial muscles and therefore cannot be effectively treated with BOTOX® injections. It can also be used to add volume to the lips and cheeks. Restylane® is a synthesized version of hyaluronic acid, a compound that occurs naturally in the body. With just a few injections, Restylane® can fill wrinkles and creases, restoring fullness and volume to these areas for many months to come.
At our Overland Park practice, Restylane® can be applied in approximately a half an hour. A thin needle is used, and the discomfort associated with this treatment is minimal. Injections are gently made into wrinkles and lines on the patient’s face. After the procedure, patients may want to recover at home. Though there is no significant downtime after Restylane® is administered, patients may experience slight redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, and itching. The results are usually visible immediately – the wrinkles will be substantially diminished, and the face will look smoother and more youthful overall. The longevity of the results will vary depending on the type of treatment the patient chooses, but most patients enjoy their results for six to nine months.
