Some of our happiest patients are the women who undergo a “mommy makeover.” This makeover refers to a combination of procedures that create fuller, more lifted breasts and a smaller, whittled-down waist. It is popular among women whose bodies have taken a toll after pregnancy and childbirth.
As much as we love our children, the quick weight changes due to pregnancy and childbirth can leave us feeling less attractive due to loose skin, weakened abdominal muscles and sagging and/or deflated breasts. If you are considering losing more weight or having more children, the mommy makeover may not be for them at this time. But if you are finished having children and generally close to your ideal weight, then you may be an excellent candidate for this procedure!

About Mommy Makeovers
A mommy makeover actual refers to a set of procedures performed in order to counteract the effects of childbearing. The most common procedures performed as part of a mommy makeover include a breast lift with or without implants, tummy tuck, and liposuction. The breasts and abdomen are the two areas that women struggle with most following childbirth and breastfeeding.
Each and every procedure is customized to the patient’s individual needs and liking.
At Quinn Plastic Surgery, outside of Kansas City, KS, Dr. Quinn prides himself on providing one-of-a-kind procedures to help his patients feel good on the inside and out. Contact his office today to request a consultation and get started.
Good candidates for a mommy makeover may be women who have had children and have reached their weight loss goal; significant weight fluctuation may negatively impact the patient’s results. You should be done having children, as future pregnancies could also negatively impact results, especially results from a tummy tuck.
You should be in good overall health and not have any illnesses that could negatively affect your ability to heal following surgery. Please inform the doctor if you smoke or take medications. You should also have realistic expectations that you can articulate to the doctor.
Since a mommy makeover procedure is a custom set of procedures designed for the woman in mind, no two procedures will be exactly alike. That is the wonderful part of this surgery; individualized results for individualized requests.
Ultimately, Dr. Quinn will help each patient determine if they would benefit from a mommy makeover and help them choose the procedures that would be best for them. Request a consultation today.
Mommy Makeover Options
As mentioned before, a mommy makeover actually refers to a set of procedures designed to help women restore their figures following pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. A
Breast Lift with or without Implants
Breast lifts are extremely effective for mothers looking to address the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Breast lift surgery takes between one and three hours. Dr. Quinn will mark the breasts before surgery in order to provide exact guidelines for incisions that will be made during surgery. Dr. Quinn will then make the incisions and removing any excess skin. At this point, the procedure may or may not include inserting breast implants to restore the breast to its original shape and size, or to regain the fullness experienced during pregnancy.
Prior to undergoing surgery with implants, the patient will have the opportunity to pick out the size and composition of their implants. Dr. Quinn will advise the patient on all of their options regarding breast implants and help them make the best decision for them.
- Size: Breast implants are available in sizes ranging from 100 cubic centimeters to 1000 cubic centimeters.
- Composition: Breast implants are either composed of saline or silicone.
Following the creation of the pockets and insertion of the implants, the breast lift may involve repositioning and/or resizing the nipples and areolas. Moms will have a raised and reshaped bust line that lends to a beautiful new body contour.
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is the removal of excess skin on the abdomen and the tightening of the abdominal muscles. The tummy tuck incision is made fairly low so that the resulting scar will be as discreet as possible. After the incision is made, Dr. Quinn removes excess skin from the abdomen, shaping a pleasing contour for the patient’s new figure.
He also tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall to enhance the new, toned appearance. Liposuction is commonly performed during the operation as well. Once completed, he then closes and bandages the incision. Patients might be asked to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and speed up recovery.
Liposuction is a viable option for patients who, after diet and exercise, still experience dissatisfaction with fatty tissue deposits in certain parts of their body. The liposuction procedure involves making a small incision at the treatment area through which Dr. Quinn inserts a thin tube called a cannula. The cannula is used to gently suck away the excess fat within the treatment area. Once the appropriate amount of fat has been removed, Dr. Quinn closes the incision site.
Liposuction can be performed almost anywhere that the patient possesses excess, localized deposits of fatty tissue. Some of the most common areas where liposuction is performed include the arms, abdomen, flanks, and thighs.
A mommy makeover is usually performed on an outpatient basis, so you will be able to return home the same day as surgery. However, you will receive general anesthesia during the procedure for enhanced patient comfort, which means that you will need to make arrangements for another adult to pick you up and drive you home from surgery.
In most cases, all of the procedures can be performed on the same day.
Dr. Quinn will begin by marking on the body where the incisions will go and thoroughly explaining his methodology. Then, the patient will be taken to the surgery room, where they will receive anesthesia. They will be asleep throughout the procedure.
When the patient wakes up from the surgery, they will already have received sutures, bandages, compression garments, and drainage tubes as necessary. They will be provided with further instructions on how to care for, change, and remove their post-operative garments as necessary. Finally, they will be monitored in a recovery room by our caring and knowledgeable staff until the patient is released.
Recovery from a mommy makeover will vary from patient to patient depending on the procedures that they undergo. Typically, you can expect to go home the same day as surgery. You should make sure to have help around the home, particularly with your children, during recovery. Recovery usually takes about two weeks before you can return to your normal routines; however, sometimes it will take more time and sometimes it will take less.
In general, you can expect to have compression garments placed around your breasts, abdomen, and liposuction sites. These garments will help the body adapt to its new contour and minimize bruising and swelling. Bruising, swelling, and discomfort are the most common side effects following a mommy makeover. Discomfort can be alleviated with a prescription provided by Dr. Quinn.
Women interested in a mommy makeover should begin by requesting a consultation with Dr. Quinn. During this time Dr. Quinn will ask about your surgical goals and then determine how he can reasonably help you achieve those goals through cosmetic surgery. He will perform a physical evaluation to help determine whether or not you are a good candidate and ask about medical history, including prior surgeries, illnesses, and medications that you currently take.
It’s important to remember that not all mothers need the listed procedures. Be sure to ask questions and learn about what helps the success of a mommy makeover procedure. When considering planning when to schedule a mommy makeover, talk to Dr. Quinn about the best timing for you and your family. It’s important to always have support at home during the recovery process.
At the end of the consultation, once Dr. Quinn has created a thorough outline of your personalized procedure, he will be able to provide a price quote. Since a mommy makeover is such a highly customizable procedure, the cost will vary greatly. Dr. Quinn cannot reasonably provide a quote until after he has had time to evaluate you and determine what procedures you would benefit from most.
